• The BIST100 closed by another 0.10% lower yesterday, yes, I left the sentence unchanged from the previous day’s daily, at its day low at 8016, and turnover of TRY 91.6bn, with the sales accelerating towards the closing bell, after peaking intraday 100pts higher at 8117.
• The Banks closed 0.90%, and the Mining stocks’ losses were parallel to the retreat in Gold prices, whereas the REIT stocks continued to outperform its peers, alongside the strong buying mood in the Energy stocks.
• As such, yesterday’s biggest BIST30 Advancers and Laggards were SASA-HEKTS and EKGYO, as opposed to AKBNK-EREGL and KOZAA.
• As of print, the TRY is trading weaker against both the USD and the Euro at 30.19 and 32.90, respectively, while the DXY has dropped to 103.43, as of print. The 2yr Bond rates closed 7bps higher to 41.99%, whereas the 10yr rates retreated by 16bps to 27.15%. The 5yr CDS rates are once again moving away from the 300 level, upwards at 317.
• On the Commodity front, Brent is trading a tad lower this morning at $78.67, and Ounce and Gram GOLD are at $2022 and TRY 1962, respectively.
• Last week, Foreign Investors were Net BUYERS of USD 157mn STOCKS, and an eye-whopping Net PURCHASE of USD 425 BONDS.
• The ECB Minutes revealed yesterday that policymakers decided to push back against market expectations of early loosening, due to concerns that investor bets on rate cuts as early as March had loosened financial conditions so much that they “could derail the disinflationary process.”
• Goldman Sachs disclosed yesterday that they were upbeat on Türkiye’s inflation, stating that the price path hinges largely on money supply growth. GS sees the Turkish inflation ending the year “slightly below” 30%, consequently the lower forecasts compiled by Bloomberg, and 6pps lower than even the CBRT’S year-end 36% target.
• JPMorgan Head of CEEMEA Debt Capital Markets Stefan Weiler stated post January 11 Investor Meeting in New York, that he believed investors were convinced of the disinflation path, and that the given messages were positively received.
AGENDA:
• On the local front today, Homes Sales Figures and the Expected 12th month Inflation figures will be released, while across the Pond, the US Existing Home Sales and Michigan Consumer Confidence will be released.
CORPORATE:
• ASELS: Disclosed yesterday during the session that it signed two separate agreements at €15.6mn and TRY 183mn.
• GLYHO: Disclosed its December Passenger figures. Accordingly, Number of calls at GPH`s ports in Dec 2023 was 35% higher than Dec 2022 level, while passenger movements at GPH ports in Dec 2023 standalone was 41% higher than Dec 2022 level. Average occupancy rate of the cruise ships visiting GPH's ports was 99% in Nov 2023.
• KAYSE: Disclosed that the Trade Ministry has allowed its export allowance to be increased to 19,608 tons from 11,832 tons.
• MAKTK: Disclosed that it will sell its unused equipment due to market conditions for TRY 105mn.
