TFG Istanbul Morning Report (TFG Istanbul Menkul Değerler )

• The BIST closed Friday nearly half-point higher at 5214, with a turnover of TRY 117bn, thanks to the buying appetite in the Banks and the REITs, whereas the Iron & Steel Stocks, alongside the Telcos, weighed down on the gauge. The markets were stressed by the hawkish rhetoric from the Fed and the ECB presidents, regarding their fight against inflation, thus giving the message that the tighter monetary policy is here to stay.
• On the BIST30 front, HALKB, despite the news from the VOA, topped the most bought list, closing limit-up, and was followed by ARCLK and PETKM, whereas TCELL, TTKOM and KRDMD were the most sold.
• For the week, the BIST100 returned on average 4.18%, led by HALKB, GLYHO and TSKB, whereas ODAS, KONTR and SMRTG were the most sold. The Banks steered the gains at the BIST, rising by 12.67%, followed by the REITs’ 4.10%, whereas the Industrials rose by 3.14% and the Conglomerates by a mere 2.32%. The Energy stocks diverged negatively, falling by 1.46%.
• Today, we expect a slight positive opening at the BIST.
• As of Friday’s close, the TRY is flat against the USD at 18.64, but weaker against the Euro at 19.77, and the DXY has fallen slightly to 104.62. The 2yr and 10yr fell on Friday by 5bps and 19bps to 9.11% and 10.75%, respectively.
• On the commodity front, Brent has fallen sharply to trading just below the USD 80 level, and both ounce and gram GOLD are trading lower as well as USD 1791 and TRY 1074, respectively. The CDS rates will start the new week higher at 537, compared last week’s rate of 523.
• Fed Cleveland President Loretta Mester stated that the high interest rates would need to continue until the inflation cools.
• According to the Minister of Labor, an agreement on the minimum wage increase is set to be disclosed at tomorrow’s meeting with the labor union representatives.
NEWS FLOW:
• SAHOL: Disclosed that it has increased its stock buying fund to at least TRY 3.25bn, adding that 85.4% of its previously designated TRY 1.75bn allocation have been used up.
